PAST EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Technical Seminar: Smart Manufacturing and Smart Factory

The technical seminar, Smart Manufacturing and Smart Factory was successfully held on 29th October 2021 at Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department of the University of Hong Kong.

 

This event was co-organized by Group 14 of Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI-Gp14), Manufacturing Technology Training Board of VTC Hong Kong (MTTB-VTC), the Manufacturing, Industrial & Systems Division of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (MIS-HKIE), and IMSE Department of HKU. This has a total of 300 audiences, 10 of whom attended in person physically, and more than 200 persons participated by zoom. The audience included industrialists, engineers, and educators from the Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao Greater Bay Area.

 

Three distinguished guests, 1) Prof George Huang - Chair Professor and Head of IMSE Department of HKU, 2) Mr Nicholas Lai - General Manager (Southern China) of Pro-Technic Machinery Ltd., 3) Dr Vincent Fung - Non-Executive Director of Kin Yat Holding Limited were invited to explain and analyze the transformation from theory to practical experience on Smart Manufacturing and Smart Factory.   

 

The seminar was commenced with Welcome Speech and Opening Speech, delivered by Mr Stanley Cheung, the Chairman of  MTTB-VTC and Ir Peter Si, the Chairman of MIS-HKIE respectively.

 

In the speech session, the speakers explained the theory of Smart Manufacturing and shared their experience by real case studies.  In addition to theory, the speakers also introduced how to prepare their own factories to achieve smartness, and discussed the pros and cons of the factories after being Smart.

 

After the completion of speeches, Mr Stanley Cheung moderated the discussion panel program. The eagerness of questions asking in the seminar had simulated some good discussion among the speakers and audiences in related topics. For example, what is/are the similarity and difference between smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0? What equipment is needed to be equipped for transforming to a smart factory? Is their factory worthy of achieving smartness? The host and three expert speakers took turns to give detailed answers for all questions above.The audiences expressed that they have a better understanding of this topic and can be used as an important reference for the future development of their factories. They look forward to keep up with the latest information in the industry through our further technical seminars.

 

The event was ended with a closing remark by Miss Maggie Tsoi, the Vice Chair-lady of  FHKI-Gp14. She summarized the content of this event and expressed her appreciation to all guest speakers, operating committee members and all participants for their valuable contributions to the success of this event.
