Co-organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (“FHKI”), FHKI Group 14 (Hong Kong Mould and Die Council) (“HKMDC”), and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (“HKSTP”), “Hong Kong Mould and Die Summit: Empowering the Industry with Innovation Transformation cum Mini-showcase” (“the Summit”) was successfully held on 6 December 2023, with more than 300 participants in attendance.
The Summit was honoured by the presence of esteemed guest, Dr Bernard Chan Pak-li, JP, as the Guest-of-Honour. Mr Steve Chuang, Chairman of FHKI, and Mr Oscar Wong, Head of Business Development of HKSTP, commenced the event by delivering the opening remarks.
Comprising two sessions, the Summit covered discussions on the present and future of Hong Kong's mould and die industry, as well as the potential for regional cooperation in Asia.
Distinguished industry figures were invited as keynote speakers for the first session, including Mr Felix Choi, Chairman of HKMDC, Dr Li Ji-fan, Director of Research and Development (Energy) of Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Ltd, Mr Edmond Lai, Chief Digital Director of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, Mr John Chow, Managing Director of the Fortune Industrial Products Ltd , and Mr Tony Wu, Business Engagement Lead, Advanced Manufacturing and Value Chains, the Greater China of World Economic Forum. They shared valuable insights on the market, materials, technology, and the future development of the Hong Kong mould and die industry. The speakers then engaged in a panel discussion on "Mould the future: Empowering the Industry with Innovation and Intelligentisation", which was also joined by Dr Lawrance Poon, Head of Innovative Technology of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute and hosted by Mr John Chow.
In the second session of the Summit, regional representatives were invited. Ms Qin Ke, Executive Vice President and General Secretary of the China Die & Mould Industry Association, Mr Masanobu Ikegami, Chairman of the International Committee of the Japan Die & Mold Industry Association, and Ms Vu Thi Thuy, Consul, Head of Trade Office of the Consulate General of the S.R. of Vietnam in Hong Kong, presented the first-hand market information and latest developments of their respective countries.
The subsequent panel discussion, led by Mr Ricky Chan, Executive Deputy Chairman of FHKI, and involving local representative Mr Patrick To, Vice-Chairman of HKMDC, along with all other regional representatives, focused on leverage the advantages of the mould and die industry in Asia to achieve a win-win regional cooperation.
Along with Hong Kong industry, Hong Kong's mould and die industry will continue to leverage the advantages of Hong Kong and seek win-win cross-regional collaborations with other Asian countries and regions.
The mould and die industry of Hong Kong, in collaboration with the broader industry, will continue to leverage Hong Kong's advantages, seek win-win cross-regional collaborations with other Asian countries and regions, integrate new technologies, actively cooperate with various regions, and promote the opening of a more glorious chapter for the Hong Kong industry.
